As Easter approaches our thoughts turn once again to the events that lead up to the closing chapters of our Lords life, and the season of Lent that precedes it. The season of Lent has two main elements. One is giving something up, by a period of self-denial, and self-restraint, and the other is giving something out, by acts of self-sacrifice and deeds of kindness. There is no greater demonstration of this than of Christ's ultimate death on the cross. There is no doubt that those who saw Mel Gibson's graphically portrayed "The Passion of the Christ", were deeply moved to recognize again the Saviour's act of great self-sacrifice in order to give us the priceless gift of salvation and redemption. During the last 12 hours of his death, Jesus made seven statements from the cross. It is often said that the last words a person utters before their death carry a special importance, and indeed books have been written about the last words of famous people. What was the significance of the statements that Christ uttered on the cross? In this lent study, explore the significant statements that fell form the lips of the Saviour at Calvary and understand their importance.
