Every day is a day filled with pain, and the forgotten memories of a day that changed his life forever. Author Benjamin Heidengren survived a dangerous car accident, but was left with permanent brain damage that led to having anterograde amnesia and no memory of life since his 2011 car accident. In his new book, The Forlorn Hope, Benjamin describes the daily struggles he endures without his memory and constant pain, likening it to the forlorn hope detachment of soldiers during Revolutionary wartimes. However, Benjamin sees God's purposes in his life of suffering: to fight for the glory of God and understand suffering like Christ suffered on the cross. Each chapter begins with a personal poem interpreting Benjamin's knowledge of physical pain and the nature of suffering, followed by shared thoughts on his condition, daily challenges and advice to caregivers on encouraging their suffering loved ones to keep hope alive.
