This book is the first in-depth treatment in English language of Habermas' Auch eine Geschichte der Philosophie, published in 2019. Here, Habermas uses the relationship between "faith" and "knowledge" to trace the origins and development of philosophy from its joint genealogy with religion in the axial age to the present day. In order to discuss the impressive trajectories charted by Habermas, the author draws on research in New Testament studies, Patristics, the Middle Ages and Nominalism. They are relevant for engaging with the key thesis of Habermas's approach, reiterated in his new work in relation to religion, that the transcendental subject on which Kant's critiques of reason are founded, has been replaced by intersubjective relations in the lifeworld and by the community of researchers.
