Teresa of Ávila

During the 1500s, a woman named Teresa lived and worked at the Carmelite Convent of the Incarnation at Ávila. She continually sought the Lord and deepened her life of prayer through the liturgy of the church and her own spontaneous communication with God. Teresa's writings make it clear that she was not seeking any mystical experience for its own sake. She was simply seeking closeness with her Lord. For centuries since, her writings have offered hope for many believers, showing them how to better listen for God's voice.
