A commentary on Paul's epistle to the Romans that explains the structure of the first eleven chapters as a debate argument (tirade) between Paul and a Jewish interlocutor. In this debate Paul argues that we can only be justified before God through faith in Jesus Christ, as the gospel proclaims, and that such justification cannot be obtained by performing the works of the law. In the last five chapters Paul applies his conclusions about justification to the situation of the church in Rome.
