Some are so rare they are on the verge of extinction, while others are so numerous they are literally uncountable. Some are famous for their looks, and others for their lifestyle. But all have exceptional qualities that make them the most sought-after, cherished, and famous birds in the world.

In order to create the list for this book, birders and conservationists worldwide were asked to nominate their favorite birds, and give their reasons why these should win a place in this book. The final selections are based upon this truly global list.
