Please God, Be With Us answers the question, "What was it like to grow up in the Brazil of the 1960's?" The sixties are a decade of turmoil for Americans, but most of it happened in the U.S. in the last half of the decade. In Brazil the turmoil was during the first half. The McAfee's were there, living it with the people they ministered to. The McAfee family has had a continuous missionary presence in Brazil for the past fifty years, so this book commemorates the beginning of that faith endeavor. Steve McAfee is a husband and father of one daughter, Amy Beth, who lives in Des Moines. He is also a graduate of Manhattan Christian College, B.A. in Bible-Ministries, Lincoln University, M.A. in Church Growth and World Missions and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, M.Div. with an emphasis in Pastoral Care. He has served a number of churches in Kansas, Colorado, Missouri and Iowa. He was also a substance abuse chaplain in a hospital based program, a substance abuse counselor in a community based mental health center and later a mental health case manager for the chronically homeless, mentally ill and eventually director of clinical services in a faith based homeless shelter and transitional facility in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He now lives in that city with his wife, Patty and is an adjunct instructor at Iowa Western Community College.
