What is the best advice I can give myself and others? What is the most important lesson I have learned and often relearn, and must pass on to others? What words would be the most comforting and helpful in immediate troubles but also most meaningful for eternity? Experience has led me to answer "only trust Him". The hymn "Only Trust Him" was written by John H. Stockton, a Methodist minister in 1874 for use in the camp meeting revivals of Dwight L. Moody and Ira D. Sankey. Using the beloved invitational hymn as a back drop these short devotions seek to strengthen our understanding of what it means to only trust Him. The devotion's themes center on the three words of the title; the "only" and the ideas of exclusivity, necessity, and simplicity it communicates, on "trust" and what it truly means to believe or to have faith, and "Him", - the one we trust - Jesus Christ, the name above all names and the only name under Heaven by which we must be saved. It is my prayer that these devotions will be words of invitation, invocation, and inspiration. In your daily difficulties, and for your eternal salvation, may they encourage you to "Only Trust Him".
