Lovely Rachel Dykstra goes to Brazil to do Bible translation in a small tribal group and is assigned to work with the Guara. She expects hardships from living in a primitive situation, but she does not expect to live with an uncongenial partner and to be terrorized by the Guara with their violent weekend drinking binges. Her romance with a handsome Brazilian doctor ends in disillusionment, and her childhood fear of abandonment surfaces. She experiences the comfort of her heavenly Father's faithfulness, the grace to forgive her faithless father, and the love of a man who shares her vision. The author is a retired Wycliffe Bible translator who has four children and twelve grandchildren. With her husband she analyzed an unwritten Amerindian language and co-translated the Maxakali New Testament. She has an MA from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a PhD from Fuller Seminary School of Intercultural Studies. She published two bilingual dictionaries (Maxakali-Portuguese, and Maxakali-English) and taught missionary candidates in both Brazil and the United States. She lived in Brazil for forty years and enjoys writing about her experiences.
