Jesus sent personal letters to seven churches in the book of Revelation. Yet none of those churches exist today. Indeed, the cities of Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea -- all located in modern-day Turkey -- are now more than 95% Muslim. Churches don't exist because Islam conquered Christianity in Turkey, just as it did throughout the Middle East. Ask just about any Muslim and he or she will tell you that Islam's takeover of former Christian lands demonstrates the superiority of their religion. Could that be true? Is there a lesson for the church today in the disappearance of the seven churches of Revelation?
In Jesus vs. Muhammad, eminent Bible teacher Erwin Lutzer explores the history of Islam and Christianity and comes away with a warning: Christianity in the West can certainly go the way of Christianity in former Muslim lands. He lists seven cautionary lessons that the 21st century church needs to heed in order to counter Islam. But he also studies the testimony of Scripture, where it's clear that no earthly victories for Islam will untimately hold sway. In the battle between Muhammad and Jesus, Jesus wins -- no contest! Both a warning and an encouragement for God's people, Jesus vs. Muhammad will aid Christians in responding boldly and wisely in the face of growing Muslim influence around the world.
