A young Jane Austen takes on the role of detective as she seeks to solve the mysterious happenings at Southmoor Abbey. When her older sister breaks her arm in a carriage accident and is unable to travel, a 14-year-old Jane is sent in her stead to be companion to Lady Cromwell for a week. Jane embarks on this adventure in excited anticipation to solve the mystery of the ghostly monk in the Abbey grounds - for she does not believe in such stories! But this becomes not the only mysterious happenings for adventurous young Jane to investigate at Southmoor Abbey, as the household prepare to celebrate the eldest son's coming-of-age party.

Accident-prone night-time investigations, inheritance disputes, a library fire, two missing prize horses, and friends to save from false accusations. With the ever-present Austen spirit, Jane with notebook in hand and faithful dog, Grandison, by her side, boldly overcomes the obstacles to finding the truth.
