Abrand new recording from London's oldest and finest cathedral choir, dating back to 1127.The celebrated St Paul's Cathedral Choir presents an album of traditional and brand new festive carols from the heart of London, under the direction of Andrew Carwood.
AN AMAZING HISTORY. With 28 boy choristers and 18 men (or 'vicars choral'), St Paul's Cathedral Choir can trace its roots back to 1127, nearly 900 years ago, when the church took in and educated poor youngsters. St Paul's Cathedral even helped revive Christmas Carols in the 19th Century revival of Christmas Carols when its organist Sir John Stainer published Christmas Carols Old and New, establishing lots of the favourites still loved today. Stainer raised the standard of choral singing at the Cathedral to new heights.
THE MUSIC.The album features some of the best loved carols in famous arrangements alongside new works such as Philip Stopford's touching setting of the 16th Century Lully Lulla Lullay, and the world premiere recording of Graham Jordan Ellis's captivating There Is No Rose.
Other works new to Decca include the lively Carol of the Bells and John Rutter's ravishing All Bells in Paradise.
