This book is a collection of forty poems- forty being a biblical number. A quote from scripture introduces each poem from which the work gets its inspiration. Biblical imagery is used throughout. In "The Trellis" a grandmother and a granddaughter share the faith ("blood-related not once but twice...thanks be to a sacrifice.)" Jesus is the Living Water in a poem about a Roman aqueduct ("Je Crois, I Believe"). The friendship between a knight and his squire is a "smooth gold coin" in the poem, "Thoughts on Cervantes' Don Quijote de la Mancha." While the themes are varied, they all point to Jesus Christ and the Gospel. point to Jesus Christ and the Gospel.
