He also had opportunities to go on short-term mission trips to Africa and India. D. D. Lewis had the privilege to minister in the Allegheny County Jail for over 20 years. D. D. Lewis served as a volunteer chaplain, giving one-on-one counseling to inmates, and led a Bible study every Tuesday evening. The challenges of jail ministry taught him to speak boldly into people's lives. There D. D. Lewis learned how to pray, trust, and rejoice in God's provisions.
